At the Vietnam Veterans' Memorial, we looked for servicemen from our hometown of
Hooks, Texas. As it turns out, there is only one person on The Wall who listed
that as his home: David Wayne Crary. He was born on March 9th, 1948, and his
tour of duty began on December 12th, 1967. David Wayne Crary died on February
2nd, 1968, in Quang Tri, South Vietnam, as a ground casualty from hostile
attack. His name is listed on Panel 36E, Line 68.

We wanted to do a rubbing of his name on The Wall so that the Hooks
Public Library could display it to honor his service and sacrifice to our
country. It was incredibly touching to see the people there who were getting
rubbings of their loved ones' names - we saw a family that had even brought a ladder,
since the person that they wanted was listed at the top of one of the higher
panels. We can't imagine visiting this memorial and not being moved. Below is
a scan of the rubbing that we did.
